1st Sunday of Advent - Hope
“Advent creates people, new people. We too are supposed to become new people in Advent. Look up, you whose “gaze is fixed on this earth, who are spellbound by the little events and changes on the face of the earth. Look up to these words, you who have turned away from heaven disappointed. Look up, you whose eyes are heavy with tears and who are heavy and who are crying over the fact that the earth has gracelessly torn us away. Look up, you who, burdened with guilt, cannot lift your eyes. Look up, your redemption is drawing near. Something different from what you see daily will happen. Just be aware, be watchful, wait just another short moment. Wait and something quite new will break over you: this is our great hope, God will come.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer
2 Corinthians 5:16-18
At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ.
Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

We light the candle of Hope because we believe in the Advent of our Savior Jesus Christ! Regardless of our circumstances of our past, we now have new life in Christ and certain hope that the best is yet to come. We diligently seek those things above us - and not those beneath us… for Jesus Christ is coming again, and He is the Hope for our new life, both now and forever!
